Yes, it’s that time again. This Sunday at 2:00am, everyone will set their clock back one hour, taking us from Daylight Saving Time, back to Standard Time.
The history of this practice and it’s actual origins are a bit murky but you’ll find at least a dozen different stories on the internet from Benjamin Franklin horseback riding at sunrise and wondering why no one else was out (personally I think this may be one of the earliest documented cases of insomnia), to the addition of an extra month of Daylight Saving Time in 2005 by congress in an effort to save energy. There is much debate as to whether this actually saves energy and whether the change is actually good for our bodies, but, one thing is for certain. Most everyone appreciates the extra hour of sleep!
And, don’t forget to change your batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors this weekend as well. This is the perfect time to replace those old batteries instead of waiting for that incessant chirping to begin when they are running low.
Enjoy your extra hour and have a great weekend!
